Why NE Ohio Needs a Homeschool Directory
Hello and welcome back NEO Homeschoolers! I have a question for my fellow homeschool mamas: Are you ever overwhelmed by the scattered, plethora of information there is on homeschooling when you search the internet? I don't know about you, but when I search for homeschool resources, information, etc., I often find it frustrating trying to narrow down what is relevant to NE Ohio, what is just general information, and what is relevant to another state. Then, there's the mess of sorting through what is reputable information and what is garbage. It's a lot! Add to that the everyday chaos that comes with running a household, raising two littles, and juggling a family's worth of schedules... I come back to the reason I started this blog in the first place: Northeast Ohio needs a central directory for homeschool resources and information.
Think of it this way: When you want information on the current month's homeschool events or on what coops are available in NE Ohio, you'd have one - you read that right, ONE - website to go to, and you'd find what you needed. Right now, when we mamas want information on a coop or to find local homeschool events, we go to Google and spend twenty minutes trying to find what we're looking for. It's frustrating and time consuming, which is why I believe a homeschool directory for NE Ohio would be useful, and I want to make NEO Homeschool Connections that directory.
So, what will this directory I want to create offer? I want to create a community where homeschool families in NE Ohio can come to find:
- homschool coops
- homeschool-friendly businesses
- field trip destinations
- curriculum options & info
- homeschool hybrid options & info
- family-friendly recipes for those busy, on-the-go homeschool days
- tutoring services that work with homeschool families
- (hopefully) a community of other homeschool families in the area
Now, you might be wondering... What makes you so sure you can create this directory? Well, for starters, I already have experience researching local resources because I do it every month for my Homeschool Happenings posts - Side note: If you haven't checked those out, click here for the most recent one. - so it wouldn't be that hard to expand that research. I also follow several homeschool groups on Facebook and have a general idea of which business in NE Ohio offer homeschool events. With NEO Homeschool Connections already existing as a blog website, I've done the groundwork creating a homeschool-focused space on the internet. Now, I'll just pull together the resources and information to transform a blog into a directory.
When I created NEO Homeschool Connections, my dream was to create a space where homeschool families could connect with each other and community resources that would aid in their homeschool journey. I kind of lost sight of that goal as I got into a rut with my blog posts and became a bit preoccupied with motherhood and pregnancy last year. Now, I want to revamp this blog and create that community I envisioned when I started.
